British GT: Too Fast To Race – Stacy Vickers

According to the British Racing Drivers’ Club, it is “arguably, the most exclusive club in motor racing. It is home to the most successful racing drivers from Great Britain and the Commonwealth. Those who have met the exacting entry criteria have achieved at the highest levels of the sport.”

To qualify as a member, you will have raced successfully in one of a small number of high-level series that demonstrate your ability measured against the best in the game. Compassion Fatigue – A Message from the SavetheHales Team

Thanks to an amazing response from friends, fans and colleagues, the fund to help Mark Hales has had a solid start. Mark is both grateful and deeply touched that so many people have put their hands in their pockets at a difficult time to do what they can to help.

However what has been raised so far represents no more than a small fraction of the six figure sum required to pay both the mechanical and legal bills arising from damage caused to the engine of the Porsche 917 Mark was driving. The stark truth is that as things stand and despite the kindness of so many people Mark is likely to lose his house and be declared bankrupt. (more…)


Mark Hales Appeal

During 2009 Mark Hales was driving a replica Porsche 917 belonging to David Piper for a feature with a Ferrari 512S owned by Nick Mason. This was for publication in Octane and Auto Italia magazines. Octane magazine provided the insurance for the event.

On the day a lower than usual rev limit was imposed and during the test the engine failed due to an over-rev of that lower limit. While Hales maintained there was a wrongly adjusted gearshift mechanism which he raised prior to failure which caused the car to jump out of gear, Piper maintained all was well. (more…)
