Do you love your neighbour? Do you at last treat them with courtesy and consideration?

As a circuit owner and operator, it is a practical but useful simplification of Donington’s marketing policy to pick out two vital audiences. The number one group is our regular clientele – teams, corporate clients, trackday operators and drivers/riders. The other group – equal number one in so many ways – is known as ‘our neighbours’. So when The Editor invited me to write “something to interest to TrackDriver’s readers that only I would know,” the subject selected itself.

We received the following email attaching a press release from Christopher Tate, Managing Director at Donington Park.  In contrast to the struggles at other circuits it made good reading, so we thought we would share it with you.

Dear All,

Just wanted to update you about this company’s success yesterday evening with our Local Council in seeking long term permission to consolidate the temporary agreement (which has covered my first 2 years here,) of 2012 and this year, by which we could run 60 days of racing (practice, qualifying and race days), as opposed to the previous long term permission (in place up to closure in 2009), which was of 40 racing days. Is a cheap trackday a good trackday? It depends on what the participant wants. At one end of the market you have premium operators such as Gold Track, with a pit lane most race organisers would be proud of. At the other end, budget days on airfields or non-MSA race licensed venues can be equally well supported.  Both extremes – and most in between – have their place. But what is good value?
